An operations leader revised staffing needs following automation.

Adopted repeatable workflows

Of survey respondents. 67% regularly used two or more workflows.

Based on DSS Games' internal reporting and 18 survey responses. Annual savings are estimates for one department.

## The engagement

DSS Games had begun experimenting with AI, but adoption was uneven. The company had no dedicated technical staff. Before the workshop, 28% of survey respondents used Claude daily and 17% had never used it. For Cowork specifically, 56% had never used it and 11% were unfamiliar with it.

Backland Labs delivered a three-hour workshop for the entire company, combining instruction with a collaborative build session. Employees created Claude Cowork skills and automations for their own tasks. Results emerged immediately and grew over the next 90 days as employees continued developing workflows independently, without ongoing Backland Labs support.

## Business impact

### 10 automations in daily operations

DSS Games estimates annual savings of 308 hours in order processing and fulfillment and 170 hours in reporting, approximately 480 hours in total. Automated checks also help the team verify work and identify errors.

Preparation of a recurring Monday report fell from 4.5 hours to approximately 20 minutes.

> “More creative, strategic, interesting work. That’s what AI frees you up for once the monotonous stuff is off your plate.”

## Workflows in practice

**Retail shipping.** Two Amazon workflows generate labels and freight documents, match purchase orders, and calculate carton counts, weights, and shipment volumes, saving approximately three hours per week. Walmart shipping-document preparation saves a further two hours per week.

**Invoice auditing and forecasting.** Automated rate and freight-charge checks save one to two hours per week. A forecasting workflow reconciles approximately seven source files across warehousing, freight, and fulfillment, saving approximately eight to twelve hours of modeling per cycle.

Additional workflows support stock reconciliation, product-code checks, and proofreading. Employees reported daily preparation falling from one hour to 15 minutes and accuracy checks taking half the time. A community workflow helped handle a spike from one or two daily requests to 70 in one day.

**Market reporting.** After two to four hours adapting a template skill, one employee automated a monthly search-term report, saving approximately one working day per month. The resulting visual dashboard was more useful to them than the previous spreadsheet.

## Sustained adoption

Employees practiced identifying repetitive tasks, building workflows, reviewing outputs, and refining results. Following the workshop, daily Claude use rose from 28% to 61%. All 18 survey respondents used Claude at least one or two days per week, and 72% reported greater confidence identifying automation opportunities.

One initially cautious operations leader monitored an automation for six to eight weeks before trusting it, then became an advocate and identified further opportunities. Every member of the supply chain team contributed to the department’s efficiency improvements.
